Why upscaling rarely looks as good as you'd hope

Shrinking an image (downscaling) generally looks clean, since you're discarding detail the image already had. Enlarging an image (upscaling) beyond its original resolution doesn't recover detail that was never captured. The tool has to invent new pixel values through interpolation, which is why upscaled images often look soft or blurry rather than genuinely higher-resolution. If you need a specific image at a larger size than your source file supports, a dedicated AI upscaling tool can sometimes produce better results than simple interpolation, but it's still working with limited original information either way.
