Unit Converter

Unit conversion tools tend to be either bare-bones (one dropdown, one number, no context) or so cluttered with rarely-used units that finding the common ones takes longer than doing rough mental math. This one groups conversions by category (length, weight, temperature, volume, data storage, and more) and keeps the units people actually search for at the top of each list.

How to use the Unit Converter

  1. Select a unit category from the tabs at the top (length, weight, temperature, etc.).
  2. Choose your source and target units from the dropdown menus.
  3. Type a value in either field. The other field updates instantly with the converted result.
  4. Use the swap button to reverse the conversion direction if needed.

Where rounding actually matters

Most everyday conversions (cups to milliliters for a recipe, miles to kilometers for a run) tolerate rounding just fine. A few don't: converting recipe measurements for baking, where flour density and precise ratios affect results; drug dosages, which should always be double-checked against a pharmacist or the original prescribing units rather than a converter; and engineering or construction tolerances, where a "close enough" conversion can compound into a real misfit down the line. This tool shows several decimal places for exactly that reason. Round only after you've confirmed the level of precision your use actually needs.

Frequently asked questions

How many unit categories does this cover?

Length, weight/mass, temperature, volume, area, speed, data storage, time, and pressure, with the most common units in each surfaced first.

Is the conversion instant as I type?

Yes, results update live with no need to click a "convert" button.

Can I convert between metric and imperial in either direction?

Yes. Every unit converts to every other unit in its category, so metric-to-imperial and imperial-to-metric both work identically.
