How it works

The calculator multiplies your bill by the tip percentage to get the tip amount, then adds it to the bill for the total. When splitting, it divides the total evenly across all people. The visual bar shows how much of your payment goes to the bill versus the tip.

Common US tip percentages range from 15% to 20% for sit-down restaurants, with 18% being a typical default. The preset buttons cover the most common amounts, but you can enter any custom percentage for other situations like takeout, delivery, or services.

All amounts are rounded to the nearest cent. When splitting between many people, rounding may cause the individual shares to be off by a penny from the exact total.
